Enameled Copper is a soft copper wire with a plastic enameled coating. This coating is quite durable and doesn't seem to flake or peel, however abuse or rough wearing with show damage to the colour. Our supplier suggests a fair life span to be 6 months of wear. You may damage the odd ring while weaving if your pliers slip, or if you squeeze too hard.
These rings do tend to be slippery in your pliers, so Tool Magic dip (please see the Jewelry Supplies section for more information) for pliers helps when working with enameled copper!
Enemeled Copper is great for jewelry, but the rings need to be quite small to compensate for the softness. The colours are quite amazing and need to be seen to be believed!
We currently have two different types of colour for our Enameled Copper rings: "Regular" and "Silvered". Silvered rings have an extra layer of Silver under the enameled plastic coating, so the colours tend to be brighter and deeper than our Regular colours, but also somewhat softer looking as well.
You may find that there is a slight difference in shade of colour between each batch of wire. We have been told it is similar to buying wool, where each dye lot is slightly different. We do our best to keep the colours as constant as possible, but thought it was important to note the possibility of slight colour variations.
Our rainbow mix is available as an option for all ring sizes and contain a mixture of all silvered colours available for the given ring size. If you would like to request specific colours to be mixed, please choose the “Custom Mix” option for the ring size you are ordering and indicate your preferred colours in the comments section of your cart when ordering. However, please be aware that we can’t accept returns for custom mixed colours, we appreciate your understanding!
Please Note: Our 18ga Enameled Copper jump rings are AWG (American Wire Gauge), which is .040mm thick, so are technically 19ga SWG (Standard Wire Gauge). This means that our 18ga Enameled Copper jump rings are slightly thinner than our 18ga jump rings in other metals.
